Where I’ve Been

Hello friends,

It feels like I’m emerging from a void or the “upside-down” with this blog post. It’s been a very long time since I’ve written here. I have some interesting updates that explain where I’ve been all this time.

My 2018 had a very slow start but has become a life-changing year. I began 2018 focused on applying to jobs and updating this website, all while working a part-time retail job. Finally, 80 job applications later, I got an opportunity to start my career in environmental management with an amazing two-year internship! I got news about my placement in June, and by July I had moved to a new city and started my job.  

I now live in Peterborough, Ontario. It’s a small, growing city with lots of character. Callie made it to Peterborough too, and together we’ve been getting settled in our new home. If anything, she’s adjusted much better than me. I still wake up confused sometimes, unable to tell whether I’m in Vancouver, Ottawa or Peterborough. Funny how it feels like it took forever to get to this point, yet my body still hasn’t adjusted to the new reality. 

My new city is beautiful in a small city way. The neighborhoods are lined with big, old trees, and the houses here have colonial style (think archways, columns, and bedroom attics). I’m still adjusting to all my new routines, but I’ve been loving going to work. It’s rewarding to be able to use the knowledge and skills that I’ve spent so long developing. All I wanted while working retail was to be intellectually challenged. I won’t take that for granted now.  

Well, that’s my update. Now that things have settled down, I hope to write here more frequently. Stay tuned for more updates on “Callie and Amanda’s Grand Adventure” haha.

    Come Season 3, Gries had to rewrite Greg’s backstory again, this time drawing from some unlikely sources for inspiration, like HBO docuseries “The Jinx,” about late convicted killer Robert Durst, and the case involving the man who came to be known as the Tinder Swindler.

    Gries said he was struck by Durst’s “kind of seemingly even keel personality,” which served as a model for where Greg was headed, someone “who doesn’t really show a great deal of emotion, doesn’t seem to get too angry, just gets a little bit irritated and is dangerous.”

    “There’s a bridled rage underneath. And those kind of people I find – at least with respect to Gary, Greg, Gary – fascinating,” he said.

    And yet, while searching for an empathetic way back to portraying his character, Gries kept wondering if there was anything still redeeming about Greg.
    An important “wake up moment” came during a decisive conversation he had with White just before filming in Thailand, in which the show’s creator said of Greg, in no uncertain terms: “He’s a psychopath.”

    “And that was it. It was like, ‘back to the drawing board.’ And it really did help me,” Gries said.

    The penultimate episode of the series will air on Sunday, an evening that thanks to “Lotus” and other shows has again become a night of appointment viewing amid a general move away from binge watching. Gries said he appreciates the shift.

    “We’re a society that in a weird way doesn’t understand the beauty of waiting. The beauty of the space between the notes,” he shared. “If I binged (‘White Lotus’) I’d feel like I just ate too many chocolates. It just wouldn’t be the same. You need to process this.”

    “The White Lotus” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EDT on HBO, with the episode available to stream on Max. HBO and Max, like CNN, are owned by the same parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery.

    Chciałem wydać się własnymi wydarzeniami z prowadzenia tatuażu na łokciu – bowiem wiem, że sporo osób myśli się, czy warto w zespole się na owo porywać. Tak to… tak, boli. Zaś to wyraźnie. Łokieć to jedyne z aktualnych środowisk, gdzie kość jest tuż pod skórą, a wibracje maszynki czuć tak dużo. W wybranych czynnikach miałem poczucie, iż obecne niezmiernie wwiercanie się w duszę niż w postać.

    Ale! Mimo wszystko – nie żałuję ani trochę. Efekt końcowy jest oczywiście taki, jak wolał. Tatuaż wygląda mega – łokieć chyba istnieć ciemnym miejscem, jednak wcale zorganizowany projekt doskonale się tam składa i zatrzymuje uwagę. W moim przypadku to segment dłuższego rękawa, a dzięki temu całość wygląda też bardziej spójnie i profesjonalnie.

    Gdy ktokolwiek z Was szukał zestawy do tatuażu rozważa łokieć – zróbcie się mentalnie na ból, weźcie coś dostępnego do ubrania (bo później chyba istnieć wrażliwie przez parę dni) a przede każdym wybierzcie doświadczonego tatuatora. Precyzja w bieżącym środowisku to treść.

    Trzymacie własne badania z tatuażem na łokciu? Chętnie poczytam, jak u Was wyglądał ten mechanizm – może komuś poradzimy się odważyć
