2018 Resolutions and Goals

Happy New Year friends!

I hope you’ve all had a good start to 2018. I’m excited to have a fresh beginning this year. I feel that for a lot of us, 2017 was very emotionally exhausting. Politics became a spectacle in the US, and in turn, had an impact here in Canada. On a positive note, the turmoil did help to highlight the complacency that still exists here in America (whether it be racism, sexism, transphobia, or indifference). 2017 became a year of calling out abusers, which also made survivors of the abuse relive their traumas. I hope progress continues in 2018, but more than ever, it’s a good time to be prioritizing and practicing self-care.

This past year I tried to be much kinder to myself and set realistic goals. I had an amazing circle of support: an insightful counselor, understanding friends, and a cuddly cat. It was a successful year for me, and I kept most of my resolutions.

2017 Resolutions:

✓ Progress not perfection
✓ Rehab to get back on the ultimate field
✓ More adventures
✗ More time doing the things I love (blogging, art, reading)
✓ Finish my thesis

That first resolution was the wise words of my counselor. Quite honestly, I don’t think I could have been so successful without it. These past few years I’ve been in a physical and mental health slump, so taking things a day at a time really helped.

In 2017 I got back on an ultimate frisbee field after my kneecap dislocation in 2015. My knee may never feel totally “perfect” again, but at least the injury is no longer occupying a place in my mind. I also was able to get out and do more hikes this year (although you wouldn’t know it from my bad blogging). Most importantly, I finally finished my thesis and graduated from my Masters degree. Thankfully I’m now onto the next exciting chapter of my life.

I use my vision board more routinely for inspiration and direction. Even compared to the goals and values laid out in my vision board, this year was a productive one for me:

✓ I graduated my Masters
✓ Moved back to a sunnier climate that’s much better for my mental health
✓ Continued to foster strong, female friendships
✓ Applied for over 45 jobs in my field (and kept track of each one!)
✓ I even had my hair dyed blonde

My bigger goals now all rely on my life “falling into place” so to speak. Hopefully, I’ll find a job soon, get my foot in the door, start my career, get a dog, and a place, and live happily ever after. But until then, I have to focus on the goals and values I can control. For that reason, I’m going to focus on the upper right quadrant of my vision board this year.

This is the inspiration and communication part of my vision board. I’d like to focus on my artistic side, which has been long-neglected due to my academic pursuits. So I’ve decided I’d like to start drawing and painting again, possibly even set up an Etsy account too. I’d also like to start creating more blog content this year. A big interest of mine has always been moving this blog to my own site, and I think that’s something I’m capable of pursuing now.

So, my resolutions this year have shifted to prioritize everything I couldn’t do last year.

2018 Resolutions:

    • Progress not perfection
    • Create more blog content this year
    • Get back to creating, drawing and painting
    • Learn a new language (redevelop my French and learn some Spanish)
    • Prioritize my mental and physical health

How did you fare throughout 2017? And do you have any important resolutions for the new year?

Wishing all of you a positive and safe 2018!

  1. Heya just wanted to give you a brief heads up and
let you know a few of the images aren’t loading properly.
I’m not sure why but I think its a linking issue.

I’ve tried it in two different browsers and both show the same outcome.

  2. I blog quite often and I really appreciate your content.
The article has really peaked my interest. I am
going to take a note of your website and keep checking for new details about once a week.

I subscribed to your RSS feed too.

  3. continuously i used to read smaller articles or reviews that also
clear their motive, and that is also happening with this article which I
    am reading at this place.

  4. It’s really very complex in this full of activity life to listen news on Television, so I just use web for that purpose,
    and get the hottest information.

  5. An intriguing discussion is definitely worth comment.
I do think that you should write more on this subject,
it might not be a taboo matter but typically people do not
talk about these topics. To the next! Kind regards!!

  6. I really love your blog.. Excellent colors & theme. Did you build this web site yourself?
Please reply back as I’m hoping to create my own personal
website and would like to learn where you
got this from or just what the theme is called. Many thanks!

  7. Hi would you mind sharing which blog platform you’re using?
I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m having a tough time making a decision between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most
blogs and I’m looking for something unique. P.S Sorry for being off-topic but
    I had to ask!

  8. This is not the very first moment in time I came upon a blog page that was definitely worth writing comments on. This distinct posting is important to
    me. I literally live a life-style of a good number of ways;
that is to say that my employment functions are very different.

I perform Postnatal Massage Therapy. Additionally, I trade in antiques.

I’m figuring out Linux. And, that’s just a few pursuits I undertake.
In any case, my idea is, every one of us all approaches a question from
a one of a kind mind-set. Just about every experience we have forms us and
our own view of ourselves and the world around you and me.

I suppose getting hold of some larger perception of reality
is just where every little thing all of us communicate about brings us
to. That being said, precisely how will men or women then communicate?
Is it actually possible? I suppose much of our very own contributions to the Internet Commons shifts a good number of people today, often times.
Hence think about that, bloggers and commenters. Your current comment
can certainly assist a different inividual. Or even, comments can easily do the reverse.
Plus, everyone, meaning, you, me, genuinely needs to care to try to help other people to blossom and never wither.
Thanks a lot for this specific post; I actually am filing this blog along with my
other exceptional websites I’ve found that I actually bothered to comment on. Keep authoring!
    Keep expressing!

  9. Please let me know if you’re looking for a author for your site.

You have some really great articles and I believe
I would be a good asset. If you ever want to take some of the load off, I’d really like
to write some material for your blog in exchange for a link back to mine.

Please blast me an e-mail if interested. Cheers!

  10. In fact, a great number of questions are more detailed than a
random simple viewer will probably conclude, based upon their position. I’m not saying
that am an authority on this particular idea
being outlined, which means that I speculate it’s for alternative discussion board participants to want to consider.
I am definitely not striving to make difficulties or be exasperating.
Alternatively, I fully understand from knowledge that the
aforementioned may be the case. I practice Postnatal Massage Therapy, and in my personal chosen concentration, I notice it an awful lot.
    Brand-new Postnatal Massage Therapists are likely to exaggerate promises;
that is, they don’t yet honestly understand the boundaries
of their own “scope of practice,” and in this
way they can potentially make claims that are too general when talking
in with patients. It’s the identical occurrence; they have been brought in to
a theme, don’t fully understand the entire degree of it, and finally believe they are the Experts.

  13. Hi there, I do think your blog might be having browser compatibility
problems. When I take a look at your web site in Safari, it looks fine however when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping issues.
I simply wanted to provide you with a quick heads up!
    Other than that, excellent website!
